Hi! I’m Erin.
I’m a journalist, amateur baker, cat lady and displaced Cajun. The Green Fig Tree is where I share my life and passions, from pies and plants to books and social justice. The title comes from the famous passage in Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar.
I believe that living consciously and sustainably doesn’t have to be difficult, that plant-based eating can be attainable and delicious, and that those who are privileged have a duty to help others as well as the planet. My dream is to become a social worker who focuses on mental health, food access and environmental justice.
I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with my partner and our two cats. Currently, I’m a multiplatform editor at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where I also write Earth to Pittsburgh, an environmental newsletter.
