Sophia’s 1st Birthday Party

On Tuesday, Sophia will be officially 1 year old.  It is shocking to me how fast time has gone by.  At church today I saw one of my friends who is a few days overdue with her little boy, and I could not help but think how at exactly this time last year, I was in her position, and I honestly feel like it was yesterday.  We held Sophia’s party yesterday, and were joined by family and a few close friends.  It was so much fun, and Sophia knew that it was her day.  I could not ask for more.  The theme was butterflies, and we had a live butterfly release.  We were lucky enough to have a few stick around the yard long enough to get pictures and Sophia’s cousin even got to hold one.  We opened presents, though Sophia’s attention span was not very long, and she kept wanting to get back to playing with the balloons.  Then, we had cake.  I made the cakes and my mom did a wonderful job decorating them.  There were also cookies for anyone who was not interested in cake.  At the hint from my sister-in-law, we stripped Sophia to her diaper for her big cake-eating debut.  However, it was completely unnecessary as Sophia is probably the only child in the history of first birthday cakes to make sure almost 100% of what she picks up ends up in her mouth.  Andy even attempted to help her get too big of a handful, and she still patiently munched on it, barely even getting it on her face.  Overall, it was alot of fun and we are glad for everyone who was able to share this special day with us.  We are so blessed that God has chosen us as parents for this amazing little girl, and cannot wait for what the next year will bring.
