Thanksgiving Day & 6 Month Update

Today was Sophia’s first Thanksgiving, and it didn’t go so badly, considering she was in a horrible mood due to getting three shots yesterday at the doctor and I really think she has a tooth pushing through. She screamed horribly when we first arrived at Andy’s parents, but I think it was because she thought we were going to leave her there. We put her down for a nap, and she woke up and was just fussy, so she had some sweet potatos and green beans, plus some formula, and that put her in a good mood. She even let Aunt Lala hold her, and she sat with Pappy while he played the piano. She LOVED watching Pappy play the piano. Here are some pics from today in her cute outfit my mom made.

6 month stats: weight – 16 lb 2oz; height 26 1/8 in. (both b/w 50th & 75th percentiles)

Over the past month, Sophia has really matured. She sits up alone, can lean forward for things and chose to lean back up, or kick her legs under her to get to her tummy. She still refuses to roll over most of the time, though it is getting a bit more frequent. She can get her knees underneath her, and she seems to understand that she needs to do that to propel herself forward, but the strength and coordination just aren’t there yet. She has started babbling all the time, and she attempts words we say. When she is upset or mad, she cries “Mamamamama,” and she loves when she says that and I repeat “Mama” back to her. She says “ah” for all done, and gets a kick out of me signing “all done” to her when I say it. The most shocking thing was last Sunday, when she waved and said “ba ba” (bye-bye) to people at church. That wasn’t something we really worked with her at, and it was amazing that she picked it up. She sings along to the radio in the car, or if it is talk radio, she shouts at the hosts. If Andy or I are having a conversation with someone, she jumps in with her opinion. She is starting to remember we exist when she doesn’t see us, which can be both good and bad, depending on if she wants to play by herself or not. She is still sleeping through the night, though she really resists napping during the day. She is eating most fruits and vegetables (stage 1), and rice cereal and oatmeal. However, she has a sweet tooth. She absolutely loves the applesauce, bananas, carrots, peaches and sweet potatoes. Green beans seem to have grown on her, and she prefers oatmeal to rice cereal. She has also started learning to use a sippy cup, though she does better with the first half of the drink, usually 1 oz. of apple juice mixed with 4 oz. water, than she does the second half due to having to raise the cup up higher.

It has been such an amazing journey to watch her grow and learn new things, and Andy and I are so blessed that God gave us such a beautiful gift. We are thrilled to share our lives with her, and can’t wait for each new day.
